Aim of this activity
To offer our guests an in-depth discovery of our culture and an opportunity to meet and interact with members of the local community while providing them with fair complementary revenues.
Through this interactive workshop you can make scarves with simple designs to keep for yourself or take home as gifts.
Tie & dye or bandhei is a resist-dyeing technique used on textiles in Rajasthan and Gujarat. Color choices and combinations differ from region to region but are traditionally vibrant: yellow, black, red and green are the most predominant. In this process, each section of cloth is carefully dipped in color while the remaining fabric is covered tightly with thread or string. This could be tied again to bring yet another contrast in color. Usually the women are assigned to the fine task of tying while the men prepare the dye.
In the Shekhawati region this art is on the verge of disappearing facing with competition of cheap machine-made products now available in the market. Most of the male members of the Rangrez families, specialized in tie & dye, migrated in Middle East countries where they found new jobs.
Therefore, by participating in this workshop, you are also supporting this craft revival.
