Our Ethos

The Pension is run with a strong environmental and ethical ethos: we use solar-powered lighting, cooking and heating, we cook using organic ingredients sourced from local farms, and we promote recycling within the home. We ask our guests to bear in mind that they have entered a family home, not exactly a hotel. Being a Brahmin family, we serve only vegetarian food and kindly ask you not to drink alcohol in our home.

We promote responsible tourism within the fragile, rural Shekhawati region. Treks into remote rural communities are provided with discretion and responsibility. Our emphasis remains local, small and unique.

We are dedicated to preserving the legacy of Shekhawati for future generations. We have conducted surveys of the local havelis and organized preservation work within the Shekhawati region. The pension has partially funded some restoration work and continues to do so. This work continues through the Jangid-family established organization Friends of Shekhawati (note for web developers this link must open in a new browser window) and under the umbrella of INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Culture Heritage).

We also ask you to be sensitive when exploring the town and region. Nawalgarh and Shekhawati remain special and unspoilt, and are still off the beaten track for many travelers. It is important to act and dress with care in the town and region. Let us protect the authenticity of spontaneous contact and the honesty and sincerity of a smile. If you want to know more about how to behave in Shekhawati, please look at the Advice for Tourists page.
